INCIDENTE A ”ZARKANA” DEL CIRQUEDU SOLEIL A LAS VEGAS

Venerdì sera un artista dello spettacolo Zarkana delCirque du Soleil a Las Vegas è caduto al suolo durante il numero della ruotadella morte ed è stato ricoverato all’ospedale. La direzione dello spettacoloha annunciato sul proprio profilo Facebook che le condizioni non sono gravi eche a l’artista dovrebbe uscire dall’ospedale nel giro di qualche giorno. Incasi come questo, la prassi della compagnia canadese è di non rivelare l’identitàdell’artista infortunato. Alcuni giornali, riferendo fonti vicine allacompagnia canadese, fanno il nome di Junior Delgado, protagonista del numero diruota sin dall’insediamento dello spettacolo nel teatro dell’Aria Resort di LasVegas e ancora prima durante la residenza a New York. L’infortunato avrebberiportato ferite ad una gamba operata immediatamente.

‘Zarkana’ artist injured after slipping from the‘Wheel of Death’

Less than a week after being issued a half-dozen citations from OSHA in the death of “Ka” artist Sarah Guillot-Guyard, Cirque du Soleilhas reported an artist was injured Saturday night during “Zarkana,” theproduction at Aria.

Posted today just before 10 a.m. on the company’s Facebook page was this reportof the incident: “During the 7 pm performance of Zarkana last night an artistperforming in the ‘Wheel of Death’ act slipped and fell off the wheel. The showwas halted and the artist was transported to UMC where he is in stablecondition and is expected to be released from hospital in the next few days.”

In keeping with the company’s long-held policy of not releasing names ofartists injured during performances, Cirque is not formally identifying theperformer who was injured. However, sources close to the show with knowledge ofthe incident said the injured performer is longtime “Wheel of Death” artistJunior Delgado, who has performed the act in “Zarkana” since it opened at Ariain November 2012 and was also in the cast during the show’s run at Radio CityMusic Hall in New York.

Facebook conversations (some of it translated in Spanish) on the page ofDelgado’s fellow “Wheel of Death” performer Carlos Marin Loaiza indicate Loaizachecked in (the Facebook version of checking in) to UMC Saturday night withDelgado after the incident and that Delgado underwent successful surgery on hisleg.

The injuries do not seem serious, and Cirque says the “Wheel of Death”is to return to the show upon the artist’s return, with an aerial “straps” actin its place. In the “Wheel of Death” scene, two performers run and even skiprope atop and inside a pair of spinning wheels rotating high above the stage.The act is popular among Cirque productions, and, as its name indicates, is ahigh-risk endeavor. “Wheel of Death” is featured in “Ka” and also in thetouring “Kooza” show.
